Career needs
Helps students become aware of themselves and career interests, this is facilitated through:
- Timetabled classes
- Individual consultation with students and parents
- Personal profiling
- Completion of aptitude tests and interest inventories
- Career investigation
- Work experience
- Career exhibitions/ open days/ taster programmes
- Guest Speakers
Educational need
Helps students with issues such as:
- Subject choice
- Subject level
- Advice on programme advancement
- Advice on progression beyond second level education
- Exam preparation
- Stress management
- Mindfulness
This is facilitated through:
- Timetabled classes
- Individual appointment
- Relevant outside agencies
Social/ Personal needs
Facilitated through:
- Help students become integrated into second level
- Help with the various transitions in a young person’s life
- Help students to cope with any problems or pressures they may be experiencing
- Group work
- Individual consultation and counselling with Chaplain and Guidance Counsellor
- SPHE and Guidance Classes
- Appropriate contact with relevant outside agencies
