We pride ourselves in the fact that our students are offered the opportunity to participate and compete in a wide range of sporting activities at County, Connacht and All-Ireland levels in a range of age categories.

Hurling and Camogie

Teams at U14, U15, U16 and U18½ age groups are entered in the Galway and Connacht Post-Primary Schools Hurling Competitions. The tradition of Hurling & Camogie in surrounding clubs is fostered and developed within the school.

Portumna Community School has a strong tradition of competing in Connacht Colleges School Competitions. We compete in 4 grades – 1st year, Minor (1st and 2nd year), Junior and Senior. We are fortunate to have a supply of talented and enthusiastic players from the surrounding clubs in both Galway and Tipperary. Numerous students play for their school, their club and many talented players go on to represent their county. Having a combination of players from various clubs enables opponents to become friends and makes it all the more enjoyable.

Basketball has experienced a revival in Portumna Community School this year with the formation of 1st, 2nd junior and senior teams for both boys and girls. This is a monumental occasion for the school as they are the first groups to represent P.C.S. in over twenty years in this school.

Our school is currently competing in the Connacht senior boys league. We are very fortunate in PCS to have such talented and committed young men who play also with their clubs and also have some players who are playing at county level.

Portumna Community School prides itself on the strength of its rugby heritage. Our school has both boys and girls teams competing at a competitive level in Connacht championships.
