Parents’ Weekly Update

Parent reminders: 1. Sign journals weekly-junior students, (check HW is completed-all students), students can only enter via the main door, students must be in full uniform and have all materials/equipment required for all classes and students must be in school every day, be on time and be ready to work!

We hope all students and families are settling well into the new school year.

Monday, 7 September

  • MOTUS Learning Programme for First Year students takes place this week. Parents are asked to refer to the school app and previous communications for details.

  • The VIBE Programme begins in SPHE classes, supporting student wellbeing and personal development.

  • First Year Taster Programme continues with Week 2.

  • Student Support Team Meeting takes place at 10:20 a.m.

  • Ski Trip Meeting for staff involved at break time.

  • Chess Club-lunchtime-Mr. Plews

  • AP1 Meeting at lunchtime, with a focus on academic updates from Heads of Year.

Tuesday, 8 September

  • SEN Team Meeting from 11:20 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.

  • Computex ICT Clinic for staff takes place during the day.

  • Chess Club-lunchtime-Ms. Hickey

  • TY Musical Planning Meeting 1:30 p.m. (Please note this years musical takes place on 10th and 11th December 2026)

  • Proposed Agricultural Science Trip to Tully, Co. Kildare, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.- Mr. Hanney/Mr. Smith tbc

Wednesday, 9 September

  • Staff training on school systems and communications platforms takes place at lunchtime-Ms. Enright/Ms. Shanahan Dunne-room J

Thursday, 10 September

  • Shorelines Arts Festival commences.

  • Progress and Performance Meetings for senior students take place throughout the day.

  • Academic Mentoring Planning Meeting for student support initiatives.

Friday, 11 September

  • Progress and Performance Meetings continue for junior cycle students as part of our ongoing focus on student achievement and wellbeing.

School Community News

Welcome to New Staff:

We are delighted to welcome the following new members of staff to Portumna Community School:

  • Ms. Vada Coleman (Science, Chemistry and Biology PME)

  • Mr. Kieran Grace (Mathematics and Physical Education PME)

  • Our new Music teacher, Ms. Cliona McDonald who joins our Music Department this year (covering for Ms. Brogan)

We wish them every success and look forward to them becoming part of our school community.

Finally, a number of staff members will be involved in State Examinations Commission Appeals work throughout the week. We thank them for their continued commitment and professionalism in supporting this important process.
