End-of-Year Message to Parents

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we come to the end of another successful school year, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support, cooperation, and partnership throughout the year.

We would also like to congratulate all of our Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate students who have now completed their examinations. We wish them a well-deserved break and every success as they await their results (Aug 21st). The final state examination, Applied Mathematics, will take place on Tuesday, marking the end of this year’s examination season. Special thanks to our exam aide Ms. Fiona Kelly for her excellent work with exam students over the past few months.

As we prepare for the new school year, we would like to share a number of important reminders:

School Uniform
As per an amendment to the code of behaviour ratified by the BOM in June, please note that the school skirt must be knee-length or below the knee. Our uniform suppliers stock the approved skirt, and no alterations should be made to it, including turning it up or shortening it. Uniform checks will be carried out in September and throughout the year, and all skirts must comply with the school uniform policy.

Following a recommendation from our Student Council, an alternative school jacket option is now available. This jacket has a hood and a puffer-style design and may be purchased as an alternative to the existing school jacket.

Please also note that the school jacket is now compulsory for all students from First Year to Fifth Year and forms part of our Code of Behaviour. Sixth Year students are exempt from this requirement for 26/27 only after which all years must wear an approved school jacket from 2028 on.

Book Scheme and Stationery
As you are aware, both junior and senior students are now included in the School Book Scheme. Textbooks and essential stationery items, including copies, hardback copies, folders, and related materials, will be provided by the school in August.

At present, parents only need to purchase basic personal stationery items such as pens, biros, pencils, highlighters, and similar supplies. Any additional subject-specific requirements or additional stationary will be communicated to students by their teachers in September. For this reason, we recommend waiting until the start of term before purchasing any additional materials.

School Calendar
The school calendar for the coming academic year has already been circulated. We encourage all families to take note of the return-to-school dates and the scheduled school closure dates throughout the year.

Lost Property
A number of uniform items, jackets, jumpers, and other belongings have been left behind. These can be collected from the social area next week between 10.00 a.m. and 11.00 a.m. each day.

Updated Code of Behaviour
An updated Code of Behaviour will be available on the school website from August. This will include a number of changes and year-group-specific information, all of which will be communicated to parents and students before the beginning of the new school year.

Staff Farewells

As we reach the end of the school year, we would like to acknowledge and thank valued members of staff who are leaving our school community.

We wish Madeleine Blake, who has worked as a member of our cleaning staff for 27 years, every happiness in the future.

We thank Esther Hogan-Larkin for her six years of dedicated service as School Secretary and wish her every success as she returns to her family business.

We also extend our best wishes to Anne Fahy, who has served as an English teacher for 26 years at PCS and also as an Assistant Principal for the past 4 years. We thank Anne for her outstanding contribution, dedication and commitment to the school and wish her every happiness in her retirement.

Finally, we wish all of our staff, students and their families a safe, restful, and enjoyable summer break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the new academic year.

Kind regards,

Shane McClearn
