Portumna Community School Students presented with Engineering and Technology Awards.
Fostering future careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)
Portumna Community School students, along with their parents and guardians were delighted to attend the Medtronic STEM Award
2026 in their innovation & technology building Galway. Four students in total, Kate O’ Sullivan, Avril Kelly, Eve Kenny and Michael Lawless, received awards from the Senior Director of Operations & Site Manager Tom Shiel. The students were particularly excited to meet with Tom as he is a past student of Portumna College. The student recipients all achieved grades at distinction level in last year’s Junior Cycle examinations in Mathematics, Engineering & Science. We look forward to developing strong links with Medtronic long into the future.
Students received a commentative plaque on the night which also included a tour of the facility and a Q & A with Medtronic staff. Sincere thanks and well done to the students and the PCS Science, Mathematics and Engineering departments which were represented on the night by Science Teacher Mr. Kevin Hanney and Ms Shanahan Dunne, Deputy Principal.
