ACCS has informed the Board of Management of a planned one-day work stoppage on Wednesday, 14th October 2026 and Wednesday, 21st October 2026 by the trade unions representing various cohorts of staff, including teachers, special needs assistants (SNAs), and other school staff. On these days, pickets will be placed on all schools where union members are employed.

Should the one-day work stoppage on these dates (14th October 2026 and on 21st October 2026) go ahead, the Board of Management will not be in a position to discharge its responsibilities with regard to the care of students in its charge.

The Board of Management is therefore requesting you not send your son/daughter to school on Wednesday, 14th October 2026 and Wednesday, 21st October 2026.

The Board of Management regrets that this course of action is necessary. The Board has no wish to interrupt the education of students in this school. Should the situation regarding these one-day work stoppages change, the Board of Management will advise parents/guardians accordingly.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Declan O’Meara

Chairperson of the Board of Management.

Due to ongoing industrial action, our planned Open Night has been revised and will now take place as an Information Evening.

This will provide parents and prospective students with an opportunity to learn about life at Portumna Community School, our academic programmes, student supports, extracurricular activities, and the many opportunities available to our students. We look forward to welcoming you and answering any questions you may have on 15th October at 7pm.

The Junior Cycle Examination Results for the Class of 2026 will be released on Wednesday, 7th October 2026.

Students who sat the Junior Cycle examinations can collect their results in school at 1:20 p.m. during lunchtime.

As our Transition Year students are currently on work experience, they are not expected to be in uniform when coming to collect their results. Fifth Year/LCA5 students who are receiving their results will be called for at 1:20 p.m.

Results will also be available online through the Candidate Self Service Portal (CSSP) from 4:00 p.m. on the same day. Students who require their individual PIN to access the portal can obtain it from the school office upon request in person.

We would like to wish all students the very best of luck with their results.

Kind regards,

Portumna Community School

While the result didn’t go our way vs St. Paul Oughterard, it was an occasion these girls should be truly proud of. These players, with the support of Portumna RFC, are growing from strength to strength.

Thanks to Adrian Loughnane for continuing to commit to girls rugby in PCS.

The post Girls Junior Cup Rugby appeared first on Portumna Community School.

The girls had some great games against St. Brigid’s Loughrea, Coláiste Bhaile Chláir, Holy Rosary College Mountbellew and Presentation College Athenry. It was brilliant to see the girls getting out on the pitch, putting their skills into practice, working together and, most importantly, enjoying Camogie!

A huge well done to every player who took part — the effort, enthusiasm and team spirit were fantastic.

The future is certainly bright!
